Nothing can prepare your for the frenzied, spicy rhythms that resonate through modern salsa, It's hip rolling, body quivering, must-dance music that fires the emotions and stirs the soul. Turn up the volume and feel the heat. Your sense will feel acutely alive to a beat that pounds with saxophone and drums and, always, full percussion. What makes salsa so seductive? Maybe it is its history, from the original rhythms of the African ancestors, who were brought to the Caribbean by the Spanish as slaves, to the growth of today's salsa on the hip, hot streets of New York. In the swinging 60s, it was the Cubans, living among Latinos from Puerto Rico, who began playing their own distinctive styles. As well-known salsa singer Celia Cruz has said: "Salsa is Cuban music with another name. It's Mambo, Cha Cha Cha, Rumba..."
